An ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. That’s generally who you pay for internet (AOL, Optimum Online, Verizon).

If you have a wireless router then that’s the first step. Next it depends on the age of the laptop. If it’s new then you shouldn’t need one, all new laptops tend to have it built in. Older laptops might need a card however which you can find for as low as $30 in the retail world.

I’d need more details to tell you if you need one but if you can go to the “Control Panel” and open “Network Connections” it should list if there is a wireless network option. If there isn’t you need a card.

ISP Stands for Internet Service Provider, in simple words, the company that sends you your monthly bill for their internet service…LOL, and know, most Laptops today come with a Wi-Di card, which is all you need if you have a WIRELESS router, there are companies such as Sprint and Verizon that offer Internet anywhere, you have to purchase the wireless card, along with the monthly fee. But if you have a wireless router, all you need is a Wi-Fi card, such as Linksys, or D-Link, if you don’t have it already… Good Luck

    Yes and NO

You do need to have some type of wireless adapter, be it an installed card, or an external adapter to access the router.

Since you have a wireless router, I am going to assume you have high speed internet service to your house. IF this is not the case, you will need to sign up with either a cable, satelite or DSL provider. The Verizon and Sprint cards you were offered are Cell Phone type modems that give you internet all over the US. But they come with very hefty price tags for monthly service.

If you do have a wireless adapter built in, you just need to enable it and search for the available networks, yours, and log on.

IF you do not have an adapter built in, you have three options.

Purchase a Mini PCI card to install inside the computer.
Purchase an PCMCIA card or Express Card, which ever type fits your machine.
Purchase a USB adapter that will plug into a USB port.

Any of the three will work. The internal card is the safest as far a damage to the card. The PCMCIA or Express card are next safest, as only a small portion of the card sticks out of the machine. The USB is the least safe, as it sticks out of a very small USB port and can be bumped against something and possibly break itself or your motherboard.
